Chicago Millennium Park Engagement Session with Lakisha & Alex
Last weekend I had a pleasure to photograph an engagement session with Lakisha & Alex. Their wedding is not till August, but we decided to have our session early so we could set up their custom wedding site and design the save-the-date cards. Lakisha and Alex met in Florida but recently moved back to Chicago where Alex is originally from. They are a super cool couple and it was so much fun to photograph them. Despite the Chicago January winter they got so much energy and stayed so warm that they were willing to even take off their coats for some of the photos.
Initially we thought the theme of the session would ice skating. So we met at the Millennium Park ice skating ring. When we arrived though we found out that they were about to resurface the ice skating ring and it would not open for another 30 minutes. So not too waste too much time we decided to walk around the park and take photos by the Art Institute and its bridge, the Bean, the Jay Pritzker Pavilion, and the cool bridge to Grant Park called the BP Bridge. We got so into it that after 2 hours of photographing we were so happy with the results that totally forgot about the ice skating.
I love photographing engagement sessions because they are always so much fun and are a great way to get to know each other. So when we meet on their special day to photograph the wedding we both know what we can expect from each other, we know what works and what doesn’t and more important Lakisha & Alex will be so much more comfortable being in front of the camera. During engagement sessions I give few tips on what looks good on photos, what doesn’t, what to be aware of (little spaces between arms and body, putting weight on one leg, etc).
Below are few photos from our session. I think they turned out beautiful and it looks like we shot in late fall and not in the middle of January.
