For those that know me personally, you know that I am often artistically chaotic or in other words disordered:) But I am aware of it so I continuously try to fight it. One way to get more organized is to have a wedding photographer checklist before photographing a wedding. I am always paranoid that I will forget something so ended up putting together a checklist for myself so I knew I didn't forget anything. Last weekend I had a pleasure to be taught advanced high end retouching techniques by Solstice Retouch. Solstice, based in New York, is one of the best retouchers I know. His portfolio includes covers and editorial work for such magazines as FHM , Maxim, Marie Claire, OK! Weekly, VIVID, Playboy, Viva and many more. This year for my birthday I received a really incredible gift from my friend Tatiana from Minsk in Belarus - a 1970s camera from Russia that was my first one I've ever had. I received this beauty for my first communion and this little toy started my passion with photography. This camera was quite an adventure! It was so imprecise that almost every photo was a gamble. Of course it was purely manual, not even a light meter. I found an old light meter at my grandfather's house (probably from 1950s or 1960 that my mom used) that I used with this camera. What can I say I love January because mid-month is my birthday:) This year I decided to go a little bit crazy and ordered my own birthday cake. Few months ago I photographed an amazing cake at 2239 South Michigan Lounge. The cake was in the shape of a Martini Glass with the birthday girl sitting in it. Here is a photo of that cake. I was so impressed with the creation of Tipsy Cake that this year I decided to be a little bit more creative with my birthday and ordered a cake in the shape of my camera.
