Few days ago I had a pleasure to do Indiana wedding photography of a very interesting Serbian wedding of Jelena and Nikola. This was my first Serbian wedding so it was fantastic to find out more about all the Serbian traditions. The first thing that was different from all the other weddings I have photographed was the big pre-wedding party at Jelena's parents. It was practically a wedding reception before the actual wedding:) Ahh, and all the good food served non-stop. But before the pre-party began the bride's family tried to trick the groom and presented him another woman slightly disguised. Of course he realized it was not his wife-to-be so then they actually brought up Jelena. After some money exchange, few Serbian songs, and a lot of Serbian drinks, the groom finally got to see his future wife.
After that the whole wedding party, Nikola's and Jelena's family got dressed in Serbian colors and some traditional Serbian piece of garment. During all this time the accordion man was playing song after song, guys were drinking Serbian brandy, and one family member was responsible for walking/running around with the Serbian flag.
And this is all before the actual ceremony… so that's it for Part I. Part II of this Indiana wedding photography blog coming up soon.
Below are some photos of Jelena when she was waiting for Nikola to arrive to her parent's place. I really like her hair style. Oh which bring another interesting point… all hair styling was done by a male-stylist.
