The US Grant Hotel is in the heart of Gaslamp Quarter.Built in 1910, this upscale luxurious hotel has a lot of history in it's architecture. The breathtaking hotel wow's at every corner you turn.
If you've visited the US Grant, then you may recognize this iconic oil canvas painting of Ulysses S. Grant. This piece of historic artwork was commissioned for the hotels grand opening.
This portrait of Tim was an important portrait for him to get. During the process of Tim getting ready, he was so regal and iconic that we all kept asking if one day he would run for President of the United States.
When we were waiting for the Uber to get to the hotel before his first look with Katrina, this painting stopped us all in our tracks. He asked if he can have an epic portrait with Ulysses S. Grant.
First I took a classic portrait of the two of them as if Ulysses was one of his groomsmen. Then I had the idea of capturing Tim's reflection in the historic painting itself.
In order to do this I needed some help from his best man James. I used two cell phone flashlights to light up Tim's face so that my camera could actually properly focus in the dark reflection.
After Tim holding still for sometime, we were able to create his own iconic portrait inside the hotel.
